INTERMEDIALITY IN LITERARY TEXTS

Dr Jakub Hriňák, University of Trnava, Slovakia

Intermediality is a relatively new phenomenon. A literary perspective on intermediality was established in the twentieth century. Nowadays, it has become a fairly frequent term. A suitably chosen selection of literary texts with intermedial aspects can contribute to the shaping of a competent reader. The concept of intermediality in literary texts has become more popular thanks to the changes in society and the emergence of new media since it crosses the boundaries between several types of communication media conventionally understood as distinctive. That is the reason intermediality represents a concept that opens an extensive perspective in the interdisciplinary field. The study focuses on intermediality in literary texts. It aims to analyse the difference between relational and structural intermediality and characterise intermediality concerning literary texts. Considering methodology, the research paper employs meta-analysis and synthesis of previous research in this particular field. This research will contribute to the future analysis of intermedial aspects in Anglophone literary texts.
