The most effective exercises for preschoolers at risk for dyslexia with the use of Multi-Sensory Teaching Method

Poland, ID LLCE2015-177

In the light of the increase of children who are at risk for dyslexia, there is a strong movement to introduce a multi-sensory approach to foreign language teaching. Although met with skepticism by some teachers, by introducing exercises based on the Multi-Sensory Teaching Method, educators want to help children learn more effectively. The need for incorporating the most important aspects of working with children at risk for dyslexia has been widely recognized from a theoretical perspective, and a great deal of effort has been expended in terms of educational policy to address this issue. On the other hand, implementing teaching a foreign language to the youngest learners with the risk for dyslexia, on a practical level remains a considerable challenge. In educational settings, where teachers themselves lack familiarity with the basic activities and where educational materials are deficient in this respect, the need of paying special attention to such demanding students may often be ignored. This study offers a practical examples of the most effective exercises for teaching kids who are at risk for dyslexia. Based on experience, the author highly recommends use of Multi-Sensory Teaching Method while working with preschoolers with the risk for dyslexia   in order to develop students' vocabulary focusing on different learning styles: visual, auditory and kinaesthetic.
