Authentic-text-based lessons – a fruitful language learning experience

Slovakia, ID Výzvy2016-586;     The submitted paper explores research based on the analysis of two texts taken from contemporary literary prose. Authentic materials enhance language acquisition and cultural awareness significantly and are more attractive for learners than pedagogically modified materials. Literary materials as effective teaching materials for providing cultural and linguistic input will be analyzed and discussed. The findings indicate that authentic materials are more appropriate for advanced L2 readers and their potential for language and culture learning is considerable.  Practical recommendations for language teachers will be provided in the conclusion.
