Developing Cohesion in English as a Foreign Language Academic Writing through an Online Course

The paper reports on the development of lexical and grammatical cohesion in English as a foreign language academic writing as a result of participation in the CJV_AW Academic Writing_ONLINE course delivered at Masaryk University, Czech Republic. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest posttest design was followed (n = 28), the data collection instruments being based on authoritative categorisations of lexical and grammatical cohesion. The pre/posttest analyses indicate that after the intervention, students were able to use a greater variety of both lexical and grammatical cohesive devices and achieved more accuracy/appropriateness in their use.
