Ellipses and compensational strategies in EFL

Slovakia, ID Výzvy2016-529;      The talk is focusing on two fundamental aspects of communication – situational ellipses and selected compensational strategies. Whereas the first may often cause misunderstandings, the second may compensate and eventually improve EFL students´ communication. When it comes to actual communication, the two aspects overlap. The talk is aimed to demonstrate how the two aspect overlap and how they may influence EFL students´ speaking in both positive and negative ways. The talk will be accompanied by sample exercises from Face2face, the coursebook for young adults by Cambridge University Press.
